Millennial of Social Media

13 Apr

How would you, as a Millennial, who has practically grown up with technology and social media, convince someone in a different generation that social media can be effective (if employed properly) to their business?

Social media can be effective to a company in many ways. I see it as this way, social media is a FREE outlet to reach out to customers about anything related to the company. An easy way to put it for those who may not be involved or aware of what social media has to offer, it is basically seen as free advertising. However, social media has more to offer than just advertising. Social media allows for connections between the audience and public and the company/client. It also allows for feedback about anything related to the company. Personal customer feedback or personal experience can be very helpful when developing a product, campaign, or brand. Social media is an outlet that is expanding everyday with new sites and better developement of online media. There are so many social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, WordPress and the list goes on. Companies can now reach a whole new means of communication with the help of the development of social media. The best part about it is the fact social media is free and easy to use. Some companies have now realize how important social media is and how much it has changed what they do that hiring a social media team is key aspect of their company. To sum it up, social media cannot hurt a company if it is handled properly, it can only help. Social media is free, fun, and a fast way to communicate to the public!

I commented on the following blog:

“I totally forgot about Hey Arnold! I remember watching that when I was young. Arthur was one of my favorites but I also watched Rugrats too. I miss those shows looking back at it, I wish they still aired so my kids could watch them someday too!”

I also commented on the below link:

“I was obsessed with “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” even though it was so scary to me and sometimes gave me nightmares I still could not stop watching it! I would love to watch those episodes again to see if it really was as scary as I thought when I was younger.”

Childhood memories

4 Apr

When I was younger I did not watch a lot of TV shows, however I was a huge fan of all the Disney movies. In fact I own pretty much every single one on VHS which sucks because I no longer have a VHS player to watch those movies. I spent most of my time playing sports when I was young and being active or playing outside with the neighbors. Now kids spend a lot of their time inside playing video games or watching pointless TV programs. It is funny how TV has changed over the years. I remember when there used to be only 40 channels and now my TV at home gets up to 500 channels with HD and so many more awesome features I did not have when I was younger. I honestly don’t think that it is a bad thing though because It made me experience other things, like my favorite sport soccer which I played all the way up to my senior year of highschool.

If I could pick one of my favorite childhood TV shows It would probably have to be the show Arthur. It was one of the only shows my parents would let me watch because it was the most appropriate for my age. I also remember being a big fan of the Rugrats TV show. However, my parents didn’t like me watching it because they thought Angelica was mean and they didn’t want me to be influenced by her behavior. Looking back at my childhood years makes me laugh. I wish they would bring these shows back or at least some similar to them. I feel like the shows on TV now are nothing compared to how they used to be. MTV especially since all they show these days is 16-year-old girls getting pregnant, definitely not something I will be wasting my time watching!

I commented on the below link:

“I agree completely! Social media is like free advertising, and it is easy to use and very effective. Why would anyone not want to use social media as a promotion tool?!”

I also commented on the below link:

“I agree. It is not hard to sell social media because of all the benefits it involves. With today’s technology it is so important to make sure companies are staying up to date with their social media sites. Plus it is free so why would anyone not want to use social media!”

Selling the benefits of Social Media!

29 Mar

Social media has evolved tremendously over the years. Advances of technology have also helped in bringing this online communication world to where it is today. Using social media sites is a free and easy way to bring attention to customers and clients anything related to your company. Things travel fast on the internet or through mobile devices if it is of interest to the public. That is where social media comes to play because it allows for basically free advertising of a product, company, or event. For example, the Kony 2012 campaign is a perfect example of how social media can spread the word quickly and without costing a lot of money. The video posted on Youtube only three weeks ago has now over 86,000,000 views and that is only on Youtube alone. The day the video was posted it was trending on Twitter and people where talking about it all over facebook. Social media can transform something so simple as a Youtube video and make it a world wide event. Social media is free advertising in my opinion and anyone can use it (that is if it is handled correctly within the company). If your company is not actively involved in their social media then they are missing out of a lot of potential customers. Pay attention to any TV commercial or advertisment. Most will now say follow us on Twitter, or like us on Facebook and now some are even using the hashtag (#) symbol. It is crazy how much social media has transformed how we view a product or company, but with the right social media sites it can benefit your company in many ways.

Comment of the week:

I loved reading your post. I never thought about it that way but thinking back I always wished I had been more involved as a freshman. I had the opposite feelings because I had so much time for myself and time with my friends. I did have a job as well and that helped me to make more friends but it would be hard overloading yourself and missing out on other great oppurtunities on campus.

Comment of the week:

I totally agree! One of the best things about freshman year is meeting all kinds of new people and living in the dorms, it’s like a whole new experience! Reading your post brought back all the great memories from freshman year. Oh and I seem to get annoyed of freshman too, not sure why.

Back to the Beginning

22 Mar

What would I change about my freshman year?!
Thinking back to freshman year seems like it was a decade ago, even though it has only been a few years. My freshman year of college I went to two different schools each semester. I did not like the university I was attending at the time but now I wish I would have stayed. I transferred three times before coming to Georgia Southern and the funny thing was I got accepted to GSU and should have come here from the start. The thing is my parents kind of screwed me over because my dad had to move for his job during the end of my senior year of high school. I lived in Charlotte, NC for like 5 years and was planning to go to college there after graduating. However, since I could no longer get in state tuition in NC my parents tried to convince me to go to a GA school, which at the time I knew nothing about any GA universities and did not care to come here. I ended up moving from the school I went to NC to a private school in FL then back up to NC and took online classes at Georgia Perimeter College. My junior year I finally decided to try out Georgia Southern. I did not want to come to GSU but since It would save me a lot of money I had no choice. I was not used to living in such a small country town as I call it, since I am from the big city it was kind of a culture shock to me. I guess if I could go back I would definitely not transfer so many times. I had a great time and unforgettable experience at every place I lived but it is definitely hard transferring so many times and having to make new friends every move. If I could go back in time I would probably apply to UGA and go there as a freshman. I would also join a sorority because that is something I feel I would have enjoyed as a freshman. My sister is a sophomore at UGA and is in a sorority there. I would love to go to school with my sister because she is one of my best friends. If I had the chance again I would have focused more on staying at one school and made the best of my experience there. I do not regret the decisions I have made in the past because they have made me who I am today, but if I could go back in time these are a few things I would change.
